How did you first get into music, and which band became your first real obsession? My dad and my oldest sister were super into music and showed me really cool shit early on. My sister in particular was heavy into emo in the early 2000s so that was my first obsession musically. I was really into TBS, Brand New, Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, but the first band I really found on my own through those bands was Rise Against.

How did you discover HC, what pulled you in, and which band served as your gateway? I started going to hc shows in 2012 after going to a lot of pop punk and metalcore shows. I was friends with some of my friends’ older siblings and older kids at school who put me onto bands like Title Fight and Backtrack and TUI and Terror when I was probably 14-15. I think the gateway bands for me as a Long Island kid were Incendiary King Nine and Backtrack, I saw them at every opportunity and listened to every band that they’d put on for.

Biggest musical influence? Tough to narrow it down to one, for harder stuff it’s always gonna be Madball, COT, and American Nightmare. For Koyo we are literally a rip off of Silent Majority, Taking Back Sunday, and some other bands from that era depending on the song. I steal stuff from Mike Kinsella also all the time it’s just a little harder to notice.
